Hyderabad: The Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency (HYDRA), created by the State government, is working hard to free water bodies from illegal encroachments. On Sunday, HYDRA released a report stating that it had carried out demolitions at 18 locations and successfully recovered 43 acres of land.
For the past few days, HYDRA has been actively targeting illegal constructions in Hyderabad. On Saturday, HYDRA officials, along with personnel from the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC), demolished the N Convention Centre owned by film star Akkineni Nagarjuna. However, after the demolition was completed, the High Court issued a stay order on the action.
According to the report, HYDRA carried out demolition drives at 18 different sites in the city. The demolitions took place in areas where illegal structures had been built in buffer zones and Full Tank Levels (FTLs) of lakes. The officials mentioned that they demolished constructions belonging to Pallam Raju, Akkineni Nagarjuna, Sunil Reddy, and others.
The officials also provided specific details of their actions. They demolished an encroachment at Plot No. 30 (Lotus Pond) of the Film Nagar Co-operative Society, recovering 0.16 acres of land. In Mansoorabad, they razed a construction on Sahara Estate Road due to allegations of road encroachment, recovering 0.2 acres of land in the Hayathnagar circle of GHMC.
In another case, the officials removed an encroachment in Mithila Nagar, Road No. 12 in Banjara Hills, where they recovered 1.4 acres of land. They also cleared an encroachment on a nala (drain) at BJR Nagar, recovering five acres of land.
HYDRA recovered 3.5 acres of land from Chintal Lake at Survey No. 329 of Gajularamaram, where asbestos sheet roof structures had been illegally placed. The report alleges that local BRS leader Ratnakaram Sai Raju was responsible for the encroachment. Additionally, 0.18 acres of parkland were recovered from Khairatabad MLA Danam Nagender in Nandagiri Hills, Road No. 69, Jubilee Hills.
The report also claims that 12 acres of land were recovered from Bam RuknUd-Dowla Lake, Rajendranagar, where MIM MLA Mohd Mubeen had constructed a five-story building and MLC Mirza Rahmat Baig had built a two-story structure.
Lastly, the officials informed that 15.2 acres of land were recovered from Gandipet Lake, Khanapur, and Gandipet, Chilkur. These encroachments were reportedly linked to Pallam Raju’s brother, Pallam Anand (ORO Sports), Congress Party members, Kaveri Seeds owner and former TTD member GV Bhasker Rao, Sunil Reddy (a BJP candidate for the Manthani constituency), and Anupama, wife of Srinivas (Pro-kabaddi owner).
