Hyderabad: Malkajgiri MP Eatala Rajender has urged his party members to support the common people if the ongoing demolition drive by HYDRA is negatively affecting them. He made these remarks during a membership drive on Sunday.
Eatala highlighted that many ponds and lakes in Hyderabad have disappeared over time. Due to the rise in land prices, several constructions have been built on patta lands near canals, lakes, and rivers. He emphasized that the State government should provide adequate compensation to those affected if it plans to reclaim these patta lands, which were originally given to the poor.
He mentioned that the encroachments on water bodies could have been avoided if the government had paid proper attention from the beginning.
The MP also brought up an issue concerning a 5-acre piece of land near Saroor Nagar. He explained that this land shares the same survey number with a larger 100-acre area. People have built houses there, but the government’s prohibition on the entire area is causing problems. Residents are unable to get bank loans or sell their properties due to these restrictions.
Eatala further argued that FTL (Full Tank Level) does not necessarily mean government land, as patta lands are also included within these areas. He stressed the need for a discussion on this issue. He also pointed out that if every structure built in violation of GO No. 111 is considered illegal, then even the lands given for the Shamshabad Airport and the towers built there would fall under this rule. He called for a discussion on GO No. 111 and warned against using it as a political tool.
The MP questioned the widespread belief that the government can seize anyone’s land or demolish structures at will. He recalled that several committees were appointed in the past to investigate claims that Devarayamjal lands were temple lands. However, all these committees concluded that the lands were not temple property.
Eatala warned against supporting the actions of Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, questioning how the government could claim lands after granting permissions for construction 30 years ago. He also criticized the government for issuing BRS and LRS schemes but now threatening to take over lands belonging to the poor. Finally, he noted that Congress is an old party that has been aware of the status of these lands for decades.
