Mahbubnagar: Khalid Naveed, President of the Youth Welfare Organisation in Mahbubnagar, recently spoke about the significance of Ramadan during an interview with The Hans India. He described the holy month as a special time that helps bring people from different communities together, promoting peace and unity.

Naveed explained that Ramadan, the most sacred month in Islam, is more than just a time for fasting and prayer. It is also a period that teaches important values like empathy, respect, and harmony among people of different faiths. He said that the spirit of Ramadan goes beyond religion and helps create a sense of togetherness across cultures.

He highlighted that fasting from sunrise to sunset not only builds self-discipline and spiritual growth but also makes people more aware of the struggles of the poor. Sharing Iftar meals with family, neighbors, and even strangers helps strengthen social connections and creates a warm, inclusive environment.

Naveed also spoke about zakat, the Islamic practice of giving to the needy. He said that during Ramadan, many people donate to help others, no matter what religion they follow. This act of kindness shows that caring for others is more important than any differences we may have.

According to Naveed, Ramadan brings people of different faiths together. He mentioned that many non-Muslims join Muslims in fasting for a day or attend Iftar dinners to show support. These small gestures help break down stereotypes and encourage peaceful living side by side.

In India, such unity is clearly visible. Iftar gatherings often include people of various religions. Naveed noted that even temples, gurdwaras, and churches host Iftars for their Muslim neighbors, showing the country’s rich cultural and religious diversity.

He also pointed out that Ramadan is not only a religious event but a cultural one as well. Special foods, prayers, and busy markets are part of the celebration. Cities like Old Delhi, Hyderabad, Cairo, and Istanbul become lively places filled with joy and tradition during this time.

Naveed said that the true message of Ramadan is peace, patience, and gratitude. He believes that the month teaches us to look past our differences and focus on the things that bring us together. In today’s world, where divisions are common, Ramadan reminds us that living in harmony is both possible and necessary.

As the new moon signals the start of another Ramadan, Naveed urged everyone—Muslims and non-Muslims alike—to embrace the spirit of unity and work together to build a more peaceful and understanding world.
