India Records 20% Increase in New Covid Cases, Reaching 12,591 Total Cases

India has seen an increase in Covid-19 cases with 12,591 new cases reported in the last 24 hours, which is 20% higher than the previous day. This follows Wednesday’s recording of 10,542 new cases. The active case count is currently at 65,286 according to the Union Health Ministry. However, the recovery rate remains high at 98.67%. In the last 24 hours, a total of 10,827 people have recovered, bringing the overall number of recoveries to 4,42,61,476. The daily positivity rate stands at 5.46% and the weekly positivity rate is at 5.32%.

The nationwide vaccination drive has administered 220.66 crore vaccine doses so far, with 95.21 crore second doses and 22.87 crore precaution doses.

Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister, P.K. Mishra, conducted a review meeting on Wednesday to assess the level of preparedness and public health response to the Covid-19 situation. Officials were advised to ensure operational readiness of hospital infrastructure up until the sub-district level and to regularly examine the Covid-19 situation and update advisories accordingly. The importance of continuing the Test-Track-Treat-Vaccination strategy and encouraging adherence to Covid-appropriate behavior was also emphasized.

During the meeting, Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan provided an overview of the global Covid-19 situation in a presentation.
