India has won four gold medals at the IBA Women’s Boxing World Championships. The gold medals were won by Nikhat Zareen, Saweety Boora, Lovlina Borgohain, and Nitu Ghanghas. Lovlina Borgohain won her first world championship title by defeating Caitlin Parker of Australia in the 75kg category. This was her first win after two bronze medals in the past. Nikhat Zareen won the light flyweight title by defeating Vietnam’s Nguyen Thi Tam. This was her second win at the prestigious tournament, making her the second Indian after MC Mary Kom to achieve this feat. Saweety Boora and Nitu Ghanghas also won gold medals on Saturday. Nikhat Zareen has already qualified for the Asian Games and is looking forward to competing there.
