Hyderabad is all set to welcome the 72nd Miss World pageant starting May 10, making it the second year in a row that India is hosting this international event.
Last year, the 71st Miss World was held in Mumbai, where Krystyna Pyszková from the Czech Republic won the crown on March 9, 2024. The event took place at the Jio World Centre, one of the city’s top venues.
Originally, the 71st edition was planned for the United Arab Emirates in May 2023. However, the location shifted first to New Delhi, and then finally to Mumbai. With Hyderabad now hosting the 72nd edition, India becomes the only country besides the United Kingdom to organize the pageant in two consecutive years since the contest began in 1951.
India has a strong history with Miss World. The country first hosted the event in 1996 in Bengaluru. Over the years, six Indian women have earned the Miss World title:
– Reita Faria (1966, Maharashtra) – the first Indian winner
– Aishwarya Rai (1994, Karnataka)
– Diana Hayden (1997, Telangana)
– Yukta Mookhey (1999, Maharashtra)
– Priyanka Chopra (2000)
– Manushi Chhillar (2017, Haryana)
With Hyderabad in the spotlight, excitement builds as the city prepares to host some of the world’s most talented and inspiring women. This back-to-back hosting marks another proud moment for India on the global stage.
