The victim’s family reached out to All India Majlis – E – Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) chief and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi seeking assistance to bring Mohammed Afsan back to India.

However, when AIMIM reached out to the Indian Embassy in Moscow, officials confirmed that Asfan had died.

Along with Afsan, reportedly several others fell victim to deceptive agents who recruited Indians as “helpers” for the Russian army. They were promised they wont be deployed in active war zones.

On February 29, Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal, said during a press conference that there are “20 people who have gone as support staff or as helpers to Russia”, falling victim to the same advertisement.

“We are trying our level best for their early discharge” he added.

While details about Afsan’s death are not available, sources said he died of a gunshot injury.

His family in Bazar Ghat of Red hills is in shock, unable to come to terms with the death of their family member.

Afsan’s brother, Mohammed Imran wrote to the Indian Embassy on the social media platform X seeking evidence or any authorised letter from the Russian army stating the unfortunate.

Mohammed Afsan is survived by his brother, wife and two children.
