Wanaparthy: Local leaders are working hard to support athletes in the region. MLA Thudi Megha Reddy and State Sports Authority Chairman K Shivasena Reddy highlighted these efforts during the 11th inter-district senior men’s and women’s Sepak Takraw championship at the government Polytechnic grounds.
They honored legendary hockey player Major Dhyan Chand by laying flowers, lighting a torch, and raising the national flag. The leaders then opened the matches featuring teams from Mahbubnagar and Adilabad.
Organizers noted that 20 teams, both men’s and women’s, from the 10 old districts of Telangana, are competing in the event.
Shivasena Reddy revealed that in the past two years, Rs 800 crore has been allocated to sports. The government aims to elevate Telangana’s athletes to the global stage. He mentioned challenges in acquiring Sepak Takraw balls and promised to import them from Malaysia if reported. A sports school with a Rs 57 crore investment is also approved for the district.
Thudi Megha Reddy praised Wanaparthy for its educational and sports achievements. He proudly noted that both the Sports Authority chairman and the Sports Minister come from the Palamuru area. The Chief Minister’s passion for sports was also highlighted, as he studied and played several games here. Thudi assured athletes of full support from the Sports Authority in Hyderabad for any needs.
He expressed gratitude to the Chief Minister and the Sports Authority chairman for approving a sports school and mini-stadiums for Peddamandadi and Ghanpur mandals. Reddy also celebrated Navata from Ghanpur for excelling in Sepak Takraw and securing a job in the Income Tax department, encouraging others to pursue sports excellence.
