Hyderabad: A team from the Hyderabad Commissioner’s Task Force (East Zone), along with the Chilkalguda police, arrested five people involved in an online satta (gambling) gang that operated across states.

The police seized Rs 1,07,200 in cash and other materials worth around Rs 4 lakh during the raid. The arrested individuals are Penugonda Sadashivudu (32), Madishetty Yadagiri (40), Yelugu Karthik (23), Faizan Khan (25), and Tallapally Punnam Chander Goud (26).

According to the police, the main person behind the operation, Rajender, is still missing. Around three years ago, Rajender rented a room in Chilkalguda and began the illegal betting operation using laptops, tablets, mobile phones, and printers.

He hired his nephew, Sadashivudu, and others to help run the business. They took bets over WhatsApp using mobile phones and tablets. Payments were made through UPI apps like PhonePe and Google Pay, or by direct bank transfers.

The investigation showed that many people from different districts of Telangana were involved in placing bets with the gang. Rajender used the money collected to place larger bets with satta organisers in Wani, Maharashtra, earning illegal profits.

Based on a tip-off, the East Zone Task Force and Chilkalguda police carried out a raid and caught the five members. The search is still on for Rajender.
