The love for biryani in Hyderabad is unmatched, with it being the most-ordered dish on food delivery apps. However, there have been recent complaints from customers about finding lizards and cockroaches in their food from restaurants and online orders.
In one incident, a customer found a dead cockroach in the biryani served at a popular buffet restaurant in Jubilee Hills. This shows that even renowned restaurants lack proper hygiene in their kitchens. The customer filmed the incident, raised the issue with the restaurant staff, and shared it online with GHMC and other departments.
Due to these complaints about insects in food and concerns about food quality in various hotels, restaurants, and food centers in the city, the Food Safety officials under GHMC have started conducting inspections to ensure hygiene and cleanliness in the kitchens.
The food officials have assured the affected customer and the public that appropriate actions will be taken to address these incidents. Despite efforts by GHMC to enforce hygiene practices in all restaurants, such complaints still arise. It remains to be seen how authorities will handle the increasing number of complaints against Hyderabad’s restaurants.
These recent incidents have made biryani lovers in Hyderabad question their choices. Some users on social media have expressed their concerns and the need to be extra cautious while enjoying their favorite dish.
In the past few months, there have been multiple instances of insects found in food served by hotels and restaurants. In one case, eight people fell ill after consuming biryani cooked with lizards at a hotel in Rajendranagar. Another incident involved a family from Amberpet who discovered a lizard in their mini chicken biryani from a restaurant at RTC X Roads. Additionally, a dead cockroach was found in a fish biryani ordered online from the Koti area.
Furthermore, in November, over 43 individuals were hospitalized after consuming mandi served at a hotel in Purani Haveli.
The Assistant Food Controller of GHMC has taken note of these issues and officers are inspecting hotels and restaurants. Any violation in food quality will be dealt with strict action based on lab testing. A report will be submitted following the inspections.
