The Government of Telangana has issued orders appointing Sri Avinash Mohanty, IPS (2005), as Commissioner of TG SAFE (Telangana Standards Authority for Food and Essential Drugs) in addition to his existing duties. The appointment was formalized through G.O.Rt.No.1135 dated 06-08-2026, issued by the General Administration (Spl.B) Department. The order was signed by Sanjay Jaju, Chief Secretary to Government, in the name of the Governor of Telangana.

According to the government order, Sri Avinash Mohanty was previously posted as Director General, Drugs Control Administration, Telangana in April 2026. The recent appointment follows the establishment of TG SAFE, a unified administration created by merging the Food Safety Department and the Drugs Control Administration. This merger was notified through orders issued by the Health, Medical and Family Welfare Department on 04.08.2026.

The newly formed TG SAFE will function as a unified body, with the Commissioner exercising administrative control over both the Food Safety Department and the Drugs Control Administration. However, the statutory powers, functions, and responsibilities vested under the respective Acts and Rules will remain intact. This structure aims to streamline the regulation and monitoring of food safety and drug control in the state.
