Is it Possible for a 'Disturbed' Passenger to Open the Emergency Door of a Plane During a Flight?

A man on an Asiana Airlines flight in South Korea opened an emergency exit during the flight because he felt suffocated and wanted to get off quickly. The incident happened when the plane was approaching Daegu International Airport on a domestic flight. The man, who is in his 30s, was taken into custody by the police after the incident. He said that losing his job had caused him stress.

The passenger could face up to 10 years in prison for violating aviation safety laws. The incident caused air to blow through the cabin, slightly injuring 12 people. Videos captured by other passengers showed the winds entering the cabin through the open door, causing concern among individuals. A dozen passengers were taken to hospital for breathing difficulties, but there were no serious injuries or significant damage.

Opening airplane doors during flights is not possible as the doors are effectively sealed shut due to the cabin pressurization systems and robust door mechanisms. The passenger opened the door when the plane was just 650 feet above the ground, making it easy to open the door due to a lesser difference in pressure.
