Jagdeep Dhankhar, Rajya Sabha Chairman, Raises National Flag in the New Parliament House

Vice President and Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar hoisted the tricolor at the new Parliament building on September 18 to mark Vishwakarma Jayanti. He arrived at the new Parliament building around 9.30 am on Sunday and raised the flag. It is also Prime Minister Modi’s birthday today.

After raising the flag, Dhankhar called it a “historic moment” and mentioned that India is going through a significant change and recognition of its power and contributions. This moment showcases the remarkable progress and achievements of India.

The event was attended by Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, Union Minister of Parliamentary Affairs Pralhad Joshi, Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman Harivansh, Ministers of State for Parliamentary Affairs Arjun Ram Meghawal and V. Muraleedharan, and representatives of political parties from both Houses.

However, the Leader of the Opposition in Rajya Sabha, Mallikarjun Kharge, was not present for the flag-hoisting ceremony as he was in Hyderabad for a Congress Working Committee session. Congress President Rahul Gandhi expressed his displeasure with the late invitation to the event in a letter to Rajya Sabha Secretary General Pramod Chandra Mody.
