India’s Minister of External Affairs, S Jaishankar, interacted with the Indian diaspora in Stockholm during his first visit to Sweden as foreign minister. Jaishankar spoke about the globalisation of Indian culture and referred to the Hindi idiom “aapke muh mein ghee-shakkar,” which means “what you’re saying, may that come true.” He also explained that the spread of the Indian diaspora and increased confidence in expressing Indian culture are factors contributing to its globalisation. Jaishankar cited the International Day of Yoga initiative as an example of successfully making Indian culture universal.
Jaishankar also commented on the Indo-Pacific’s increasing central role in global politics. He stated that the more the European Union and Indo-Pacific deal with each other, the stronger will be the respective appreciation of multipolarity. He is in Sweden for a three-day visit to participate in the EU Indo-Pacific Ministerial Forum (EIPMF), which coincides with India and Sweden celebrating 75 years of diplomatic relations.
