Gadwal: S. Ramachandra Reddy, who used to lead the BJP in the district, has urged the state to quickly approve a new Agricultural College for Jogulamba Gadwal. He also wants a degree college, a polytechnic college, and hostels for boys and girls in Aiza town.
Telangana currently has eight agricultural colleges, and the state has recently started three more in Nizamabad, Suryapet, and Kodangal. However, leaders highlight that Jogulamba Gadwal, the southernmost district, is largely ignored in higher education and industrial growth, even though over 80% of its people rely on farming.
Agricultural Significance of Gadwal
Known as Nadigadda, this district lies between the Krishna and Tungabhadra rivers, making it one of the most fertile areas in Telangana. With two major highways running through, the cotton seed from here is highly sought after in many states.
The district plays a key role in cotton seed production, supplying over half of India’s cotton seeds. Farmers produce top-quality seeds for national distribution. Leaders believe an agricultural college in Gadwal could offer farmers advanced seed types, modern farming techniques, organic farming lessons, scientific pest control, and connections with agricultural experts. It could also lead to local manufacturing of advanced farming tools.
Educational Needs in Aiza
For 15 years, people in Aiza have been asking for a degree college. They have also sought a polytechnic college and separate hostels for over a decade. Yet, despite ongoing efforts, these needs remain unmet, causing frustration among leaders.
Community Involvement
Many local leaders attended the event, such as Aiza Town President Kampati Bhagat Reddy, Kisan Morcha’s Medikonda Bhimsen Rao, and Aiza Town Vice Presidents Lakshman Goud, Obul Reddy, Bellamkonda Nagaraju, Chinni Krishna, along with others like Manu Reddy, Telugu Narasimha, Narasimha Reddy, Rajasekhar, Basanna Goud, and Swamulu.
These leaders collectively called on the Telangana government to address the long-standing demands of Jogulamba Gadwal for educational and agricultural progress.
