Hyderabad: On Friday, BRS MLC Kalvakuntla Kavitha urged the Telangana government to provide funds for future Moharram celebrations. She claimed that since the Congress party took charge, funds for Moharram and the traditional elephant procession have not been released. As the President of Telangana Jagruti, she emphasized the importance of Moharram as a sacred festival for Shia Muslims.

Kavitha spoke with Minority Welfare Minister Adluri Laxman Kumar over the phone about this issue. She mentioned that the KCR government had allocated funds for Moharram in 2023. However, she pointed out that the Congress-led government has not offered financial support since then. Kavitha also noted that the Shia Muslim community traditionally holds an elephant procession during Moharram, but the government did not permit it in 2024.
