BRS Leader Kavitha Announces Protest for BC Reservations
BRS leader and MLC K Kavitha has announced a massive protest, or ‘Maha Dharna,’ to be held at Dharna Chowk on January 3. The date coincides with the birth anniversary of social reformer Savitribai Phule. The protest will focus on demanding the implementation of the Kamareddy BC Declaration and 42% reservation for backward classes (BCs) in local body elections, a promise made by the Congress during last year’s Assembly elections.
Kavitha addressed the media after meeting with over 40 BC organizations at her residence. She criticized the government for failing to deliver on its commitments. “The Kamareddy BC Declaration clearly stated that 42% reservation would be given to BCs in local body elections. However, there has been no clarity or action on this promise,” she said.
The MLC questioned the Congress’s calculations regarding the BC population in Telangana, pointing out that BCs make up more than half of the state’s population. “How did the Congress arrive at the figure of 42%? If elections are conducted without fulfilling this promise, there will be serious consequences,” she warned.
Kavitha also demanded that local body elections be postponed until the BC Dedicated Commission releases its report. She emphasized the urgent need for a caste census at the national level to ensure clarity on BC representation. She accused the central government of failing to conduct such a census, which she believes is critical for fair policies.
Additionally, Kavitha slammed the government for going back on its promise to allocate an annual budget of Rs 20,000 crore for BC welfare. She urged people across Telangana to organize protests at mandal and district headquarters if the demand for reservations is not met.
The planned protest marks a significant push to hold the government accountable for its promises and to ensure justice for the backward classes in Telangana.
