Hyderabad: Kalvakuntla Kavitha, a Member of the Legislative Council from the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), has openly expressed her disappointment with her father and party chief Kalvakuntla Chandrashekar Rao (KCR) over his recent speech at the party’s silver jubilee event.

In a six-page handwritten letter, Kavitha shared her concerns about KCR’s speech, delivered on April 27 at a massive public gathering in Elkaturthy near Warangal. She felt the address lacked energy and failed to take a strong stand against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Kavitha, currently on a tour in the United States, wrote that KCR only criticized the BJP for “just two minutes.” She believes this created confusion in the minds of BRS workers, with some fearing the party might align with the BJP in the future. “You should have targeted the BJP more, daddy,” she wrote, adding that her own imprisonment in a case linked to the BJP could be influencing her view.

She also questioned why KCR didn’t speak in Urdu or mention the Waqf Act, especially when it’s a hot topic nationwide. Kavitha pointed out that he skipped discussing key issues like 42% reservations for Backward Classes (BCs) and the categorisation of Scheduled Castes (SCs).

Kavitha criticized the decision to assign the party’s silver jubilee meeting planning to older in-charges. According to her, this sidelined leaders who had been active since the early days of the Telangana movement. She also said the ‘Dhoom Dhaam’ cultural program lacked excitement and failed to energize the crowd.

She further noted that the party’s decision to stay away from the recent Legislative Council elections gave the Congress a chance to claim that BRS had a secret deal with the BJP. Kavitha urged KCR to organize a two-day plenary to openly discuss these concerns and strategize for the future.

Despite her criticisms, Kavitha praised some parts of KCR’s speech. She appreciated that he did not mention Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy by name and applauded his firm stance against the Congress government’s Operation Kagar. She also supported his warning to police officials, saying it sent a strong message.

Kavitha’s letter, which was leaked to the media on Thursday, has sparked discussions within political circles about the internal dynamics of the BRS and its direction moving forward.
