Union Minister Kishan Reddy announced that the central government is reviewing a request from the state government for a CBI investigation into the Kaleswaram Lift Irrigation Project.
Speaking in New Delhi on Thursday, he highlighted the swift development of national highways in Telangana. The central government has been proactive in enhancing infrastructure, and he discussed his party’s positions on various political and administrative matters.
Reddy pointed out significant improvements in Telangana’s road network since 2014. From independence until 2015, only 2,500 km of national highways were constructed in the state. In the last decade, more than 5,000 km have been built. Now, all 32 districts have national highways, improving connections to cities like Vijayawada, Bengaluru, Nagpur, and Mumbai. He attributed fewer road accidents and fuel savings to the construction of dividers, underpasses, bypasses, and foot over bridges. In a meeting with Union Road Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari, the central government approved Rs 30,425 crore for highway projects in Telangana this year. These projects cover 1,174 km, with Rs 29,555 crore for 767 km of new highways and Rs 868 crore from the Central Road Infrastructure Fund for 422 km. Notable projects include the cable bridge over the Krishna River at Somasila (Rs 1,082 crore), four-lane expansions on NH-930P, NH-353C, NH-63, and NH-167K, and a Rs 13,957 crore Greenfield Regional Expressway from Girmapur to Tangadapalli.
Reddy urged the state to speed up forest clearances and land acquisition to prevent delays. He also revealed plans for a four-lane elevated expressway on the Hyderabad-Srisailam route through the Nallamala forest, aiming to reduce environmental impact while enhancing access for pilgrims and tourists.
Regarding metro expansion, Reddy criticized the Telangana Chief Minister‘s approach, stating that the central government had suggested the Regional Ring Road and Hyderabad Metro projects. He questioned the financial dealings between L&T and the new construction company, noting that Hyderabad Metro is currently not profitable. He stated, “The state must resolve its internal issues. We are ready to cooperate.”
Reddy reaffirmed his dedication to Telangana’s growth, mentioning that his ministry has established a special team to oversee all state projects. “Our party is committed to Telangana’s progress,” he emphasized.
The Union Minister dismissed any alliance with BRS or Congress, accusing them of making baseless claims and affirming BJP’s independent course in Telangana. He reiterated support for increased BC reservations in the Assembly but clarified it is beyond the central government’s jurisdiction.
In response to KTR’s remarks about Gen Z, Reddy condemned them as anti-national, citing the Constitution and India’s global advancements. “Such irresponsible statements should be rejected by the public,” he stated.
