Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy revealed plans on Thursday for a new initiative in Telangana schools. Modeled after Tamil Nadu’s successful programs, the state will introduce a ‘breakfast scheme’ in government schools starting next academic year.
Revanth Reddy attended an educational event in Chennai alongside Tamil Nadu’s CM M K Stalin. He expressed admiration for Tamil Nadu’s initiatives, such as mid-day meals. Reddy announced that Telangana will adopt similar strategies to benefit its students, inspired by Tamil Nadu’s progress.
The Chief Minister Breakfast Scheme (CMBS) in Tamil Nadu offers nutritious morning meals to primary school children (grades 1-5) in government schools. This initiative aims to enhance children’s health and nutrition. Initially launched in areas with high anemia rates, it is expanding to cover more regions. Women’s self-help groups manage the cooking and distribution of these meals.
Highlighting Telangana’s priorities, Reddy mentioned plans to boost sports and skill development. The government is establishing a sports university and academy. He invited sports students and coaches from Tamil Nadu to collaborate. He expressed a shared goal for both states to win their first Olympic gold medal by 2028, recalling South Korea’s success in the Paris Olympics.
Both Chief Ministers launched a new scheme offering Rs 1,000 monthly assistance for college students in the 2025-26 academic year. The ‘Pudhumai Penn’ for women and ‘Tamil Pudhalvan’ for men will aid 2,65,318 new students. This initiative by the Stalin-led DMK government highlights their commitment to advancing education in the state.
