The Telangana Human Rights Commission (TGHRC) on Tuesday issued an order to B Shivadhar Reddy, the Director-General of Police in Telangana, directing him to furnish a comprehensive factual report on the recent encounter in the Nizamabad district.
The incident which occurred on Monday has drawn the attention of the TGHRC, prompting them to seek a detailed explanation of the circumstances leading to the encounter. The commission has set a deadline of November 24, 2025, for the submission of this report.
Furthermore, the TGHRC has also requested information on the status of any ongoing magisterial or judicial investigations related to this encounter. This is seen as a move to ensure transparency and accountability in the operations of the police force.
Another significant aspect of the commission’s directive is the demand for compliance with the guidelines laid down by the Supreme Court and the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) on encounter deaths. This highlights the importance of following due process and adhering to the rule of law, even in challenging law enforcement situations.
The TGHRC’s directive also calls for the submission of copies of the First Information Report (FIR) and the post-mortem report related to the encounter. These documents are crucial in establishing the facts of the case and ensuring that all procedures have been correctly followed.
With the deadline set for November 24, the Telangana police force will need to act promptly to gather and present all the required information.
