Warangal: Promoting Rural Youth Through the CM Cup
The Telangana Government is organizing the CM Cup to identify and nurture the sports talents of rural youth, said Minister for Environment, Forests, and Endowments, Konda Surekha. During the virtual inauguration of the CM Cup District-Level Competitions from Hyderabad on Tuesday, Surekha highlighted the government’s commitment to sports. She shared that Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, a sports enthusiast, allocated ₹375 crore for sports development in the state budget.
The CM Cup competitions are being conducted at four levels: village, mandal, district, and state. In Warangal, around 6,000 athletes from 13 mandals are participating in the district-level event. Surekha encouraged participants to draw inspiration from Para-Athlete Deepthi Jeevanji, who recently won a bronze medal in the 400 meters T20 race at the 2024 Paralympics.
Warangal District Collector Satya Sarada urged rural youth to take full advantage of the CM Cup to showcase their sports skills. She announced that the competitions will feature 36 sports categories and will be held at O City Stadium and Chinthal Grounds until December 21. Sarada expressed her hope that the youth would bring glory to Warangal district by excelling in sports.
Other dignitaries, including Telangana State Co-operative Oil Seeds Growers Federation (TSCOGF) Chairman Janga Raghava Reddy and Kakatiya Urban Development Authority Chairman E Venkatram Reddy, also attended the inaugural ceremony virtually.
Several officials and sports representatives, such as Additional Collector G Sandhya Rani, Animal Husbandry Officer Balakrishna, District Youth Services Officer Satyavani, Olympic Association District Secretary Kailas Yadav, and others, were present at the event in person.
The CM Cup aims to foster a culture of sports in rural areas and provide young athletes a platform to shine at various levels.
