BRS to Approach Supreme Court Over MLA Disqualifications, Says KTR
Hyderabad: The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) working president, KT Rama Rao (KTR), announced on Wednesday that the party plans to approach the Supreme Court regarding the disqualification of MLAs. He indicated that by-elections in the state are inevitable this year.
Speaking informally to the media at Telangana Bhavan, KTR dismissed allegations of irregularities in the Formula E case. He described them as baseless accusations driven by political vendetta. Emphasizing his faith in the judiciary, KTR vowed to challenge any unfair legal actions against him.
KTR also took the opportunity to criticize the state government’s performance. He accused the ruling Congress of neglecting the poor and working in favor of the wealthy elite. He raised concerns about the proposed ‘Rythu Bharosa’ scheme, questioning the need for self-declaration forms for farmers. According to KTR, these forms would be used as a tactic to reduce benefits and betray farmers, ultimately diluting the programme to fit a limited budget.
The BRS leader harshly criticized the Congress for its governance over the past year, labeling it a failure riddled with inefficiency and corruption. He alleged that ministers and Congress MLAs were turning their offices into centers for corrupt practices. KTR also demanded transparency regarding the state’s borrowing practices, questioning how much of the Rs 1.35 lakh crore debt benefits central Congress leaders.
Looking ahead, KTR revealed BRS’ plans to organize several initiatives, including a major public meeting on the party’s foundation day on April 27 and a membership drive. He expressed confidence in the party’s performance in the upcoming local body elections.
KTR also criticized the government for failing to reserve 42 percent of seats for Backward Classes (BCs) in the elections. He accused the ruling party of deliberately avoiding the implementation of BC reservations, further marginalizing these communities.
