Hyderabad: On Sunday, BRS leader K T Rama Rao stated that only a constitutional amendment can ensure justice for Backward Classes (BCs). He criticized the government’s sincerity in implementing the 42 percent quota and accused the Congress of misleading the public about BC reservations.
During a discussion in the Assembly, KTR emphasized that it’s not just about declarations but also about dedication to promises. He challenged Chief Minister Revanth Reddy to sit on an indefinite hunger strike at Jantar Mantar in Delhi until the BC Bill passes, similar to the commitment shown during the Telangana agitation.
KTR praised the BRS for its efforts towards BC welfare, noting that KCR was the first in India to demand a separate OBC Welfare Ministry in 2004. The BRS government also passed resolutions in the Telangana Assembly for a caste census and OBC reservations, forwarding them to the Centre.
KTR questioned the trustworthiness of any party that changes its stance on BC reservations multiple times. He urged Congress and BJP to propose a constitutional amendment in Parliament to ensure permanent BC reservations. He reiterated the BRS’s support for the 42 percent BC reservations but insisted that laws must be free of loopholes to withstand judicial review.
KTR clarified that the BRS government never mentioned a ceiling on reservations and advised officials not to mislead ministers. He criticized the Congress leadership for a relative of Revanth Reddy approaching the High Court to block the 396 GO related to reservations. Additionally, he alleged that Telangana’s public funds were being spent in Bihar.
