Comedian Kunal Kamra’s stand-up show, Standing Up, was held at TGSRTC Kalabhavan in Secunderabad on Sunday, October 11, under police security. The venue was changed after opposition to the performance.
The organisers had initially scheduled two shows at Vishweshwaraya Bhavan in Khairatabad, at 3 pm and 6 pm. One show was cancelled, and the programme was shifted to TGSRTC Kalabhavan.
The event faced opposition from the Hyderabad unit of Bajrang Dal over Kamra’s alleged remarks about Hindu deities Ram and Sita.
The organisation had reportedly lodged a complaint with Hyderabad police, seeking to stop the programme. It also threatened to disrupt the event and warned that members of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) could take part.
Amid the opposition, a bus carrying around 10 to 15 people arrived at the venue. Chikkadpally police confirmed the arrival to the media and said the situation did not escalate.
The show went ahead under police security, with officers present to prevent a possible confrontation between attendees and those opposing the event. Police reported no untoward incident.
