The Manjeera Phase-2 pipeline is a critical water supply artery that serves several densely populated neighborhoods in the western and northwestern parts of Hyderabad. The 1500 mm diameter Pre-Stressed Concrete (PSC) main carries large volumes of treated water from the Manjeera water treatment plant to various distribution points across the city.

Water board officials have advised residents in the affected zones to plan their water usage accordingly during this disruption period. Households are encouraged to store water and use it judiciously until normal supply resumes.

The repair work is currently in full swing, with HMWSSB technical teams working round the clock to fix the damaged section of the pipeline. The emergency response involves isolating the affected section, draining the pipeline, and replacing or repairing the damaged portion.

This incident highlights the challenges faced by urban water supply infrastructure, particularly with aging pipelines that serve growing populations. The Manjeera water supply system is one of the major sources of drinking water for Hyderabad, supplementing the city’s water needs alongside other sources like the Krishna and Godavari rivers.

Residents in the affected areas have been experiencing water supply issues since the morning hours. Many have taken to social media to report the disruption and seek updates on restoration timelines.

The water board has assured citizens that repair works are progressing as planned and that supply will be normalized by Saturday afternoon.
