The Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) has invited tenders to prepare a Detailed Project Report (DPR) and appoint a consultant for a new six-lane elevated expressway connecting Banjara Hills to Shilpa Layout.

The proposed expressway will span approximately 10 kilometers and feature a 6 to 7-kilometer steel bridge section. This infrastructure project aims to ease traffic congestion in one of Hyderabad’s busiest corridors.

The elevated expressway will connect several key areas in the city. The route begins at Banjara Hills Road No. 12 and passes through Film NagarJudges ColonyDurgam Cheruvu, and T-Hub before reaching Shilpa Layout.

This corridor currently experiences heavy traffic during peak hours as it connects residential areas with major commercial and IT hubs. The elevated expressway is expected to provide faster connectivity and reduce travel time significantly.

The tender invitation marks the initial phase of the project. HMDA is seeking qualified consultants to conduct feasibility studies, prepare technical designs, and develop the comprehensive DPR for the expressway.

The steel bridge component of the project will be a significant engineering feature. Steel bridges offer advantages in terms of construction speed and structural flexibility, particularly in urban areas with space constraints.

The expressway will benefit residents of Banjara Hills, one of Hyderabad’s most prominent residential localities, by providing direct access to the western parts of the city. It will also improve connectivity to the T-Hub area, which houses numerous technology startups and innovation centers.

The Durgam Cheruvu area, which has seen significant development in recent years with the opening of the cable-stayed bridge, will gain additional infrastructure support through this project.

This elevated expressway project is part of HMDA’s broader infrastructure development plans for Hyderabad. The authority has been focusing on improving road connectivity across the city to accommodate growing traffic demands.

The six-lane configuration will provide adequate capacity to handle future traffic growth. Elevated expressways help maximize road space in densely populated urban areas without requiring extensive land acquisition.

Once completed, the expressway is expected to decongest surface roads in the corridor. Areas like Film Nagar and Judges Colony currently face traffic bottlenecks during rush hours.

The project timeline and estimated cost will be determined after the DPR is prepared. The consultant appointed through this tender process will be responsible for detailed engineering surveys and cost estimation.

HMDA has set technical and financial qualification criteria for interested consultants. Firms with experience in similar urban infrastructure projects will be given preference during the selection process.

The expressway will enhance connectivity between the western and central parts of Hyderabad. It will serve as an alternative route for commuters traveling between residential areas and business districts.

The Shilpa Layout area at the western end of the proposed route has witnessed rapid urbanization in recent years. Improved connectivity through this expressway will support further development in the region.
