Hyderabad Police Commissioner VC Sajjanar, IPS, has issued a stern warning to transgenders engaging in forced collections and harassment of citizens. He cautioned that strict legal action will be taken against those involved in such illegal activities.
The warning came during a special meeting organized by Hyderabad City Police with 250 transgenders at the Centre for Economic and Social Studies (CESS) auditorium in Ameerpet.
Commissioner Sajjanar urged the transgender community to abandon illegal practices and make use of government welfare schemes to live respectfully in society. He emphasized that the police will not tolerate forced collections or harassment of residents.
“In recent times, there have been increasing complaints from the public against transgenders. It is not right to barge into homes in the name of auspicious events and harass the owners. We will not tolerate such forced collections,” CP Sajjanar stated firmly.
He warned that anyone taking the law into their hands would face imprisonment, regardless of their identity. “The cases registered against you will ruin your future. If you trouble innocent people, jail sentences are inevitable,” he added.
The meeting was also attended by CID and Women Safety Division Additional DGP Charu Sinha, IPS, who directly interacted with the transgender community to understand their problems and concerns.
CP Sajjanar expressed concern that group rivalries and dominance struggles among transgenders are frequently causing peace and security issues, sometimes even resulting in loss of life.
Despite the warnings, the Police Commissioner assured that the department would stand by the transgender community. He informed that the government is giving priority to transgender welfare and will soon introduce a comprehensive policy for their benefit.
Additional DGP Charu Sinha announced that a special system called ‘Pride Place’ has been established in the Women Safety Department specifically to resolve transgender issues.
“No matter what problems arise or who harasses them, they can fearlessly seek help from this wing,” ADG Sinha said. She stated that the Women Safety Department is ready to hear and resolve transgender issues promptly.
She advised the community to stay away from illegal activities and live honorably in society.
Hyderabad District Transgender Welfare Additional Director Rajender informed that there are approximately 50,000 transgenders in Telangana. He emphasized the importance of obtaining identification cards issued by the central government to avail welfare schemes and reservations.
Director Rajender revealed that special efforts are being made to provide job opportunities for transgenders in the corporate sector, opening new avenues for their economic independence and social integration.
