Amaravati, November 18, 2025 – In a major breakthrough for security forces, Maoist leader Madvi Hidma was killed in an encounter in Maredumilli, Alluri district, Andhra Pradesh on Monday morning.
DGP Harish Kumar Gupta confirmed that police forces shot dead Hidma along with five other Maoists in the operation. The encounter took place around 6 AM and lasted for over an hour.
Operation Kagar Success
The encounter was part of Operation Kagar, under which Maoist combing operations are underway across Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and Odisha regions. The coordinated operation by security forces has been targeting Maoist strongholds in these forested border areas.
Hidma was considered the heart and soul of the current Maoist movement and had been elusive to police forces for years. Known for his tactical acumen and armed combat skills, he was regarded as the driving force behind the existing Maoist insurgency in the region.
His ability to evade capture while orchestrating attacks on security forces had made him one of the most wanted individuals in India’s anti-Naxal operations. Security agencies had been tracking his movements for an extended period before successfully neutralizing him.
Significance of the Encounter
With Hidma’s death, security experts believe this could mark the effective end of the Maoist movement in India. As the most influential and capable leader remaining in the Maoist hierarchy, his elimination is expected to severely impact the organization’s operational capabilities and morale.
The encounter represents one of the most significant successes for Indian security forces in their decades-long campaign against Left Wing Extremism (LWE) in central and eastern India.
