Hyderabad: The Municipal Administration Department has announced a series of programmes to be conducted on December 3 to celebrate Urban Day. These events are part of the one-year anniversary celebrations of ‘Prajapalana Vijayotsavalu.’ The activities will take place in all urban local bodies (ULBs), including municipalities and municipal corporations.

To guide the preparations, Director of Municipal Administration TK Sridevi held a video conference with the Municipal Commissioners of all ULBs. During this meeting, she outlined the activities planned from December 1 to December 9 as part of the celebrations. One major highlight will be the illumination of municipal offices and key junctions across all ULBs. Additionally, a 2K run is scheduled in 31 districts. The events will also include the inauguration of municipal development works and Indira Mahila Shakti units. There will be a Prajapalana Vijayotsava rally featuring ward members, municipal staff, self-help group (SHG) women, local leaders, and other notable individuals.

Other activities include eliminating Garbage Vulnerable Points (GVPs) by decorating them with Rangoli designs. Health camps for municipal workers and special eye screening camps, conducted by Shankara Eye Hospital, will also be organized, particularly in municipalities on the city’s outskirts. Cultural activities in collaboration with MEPMA are planned as well.

Before or after the cultural programmes, several welfare initiatives will take place. These include the distribution of safety equipment and PPE kits to sanitation workers, handing out bank linkage cheques to SHGs under the Indira Mahila Shakti scheme, and providing loans to street vendors. These efforts aim to recognize and support various stakeholders in urban development as part of the Prajapalana Vijayotsavalu celebrations.
