Nizamabad: P. Rakesh Reddy, an industrialist turned politician, joined the BJP after being invited by BJP Nizamabad MP Dharmapuri Aravind. He contested as the BJP candidate from Armoor in the 2023 Assembly elections.
Armoor has historically been a stronghold for Congress, which won the seat eight times. The TDP also won twice, and the TRS candidates secured victories twice after the formation of Telangana.
In the 2023 elections, there was a tough triangular contest. The BJP faced challenges related to the establishment of the Turmeric Board, issues of beedi workers, and the migration of people to the Gulf. Despite these hurdles, Rakesh Reddy managed to secure a victory, marking the first win for the BJP from the Armoor Assembly segment.
