A major change in providing healthy food to students in government schools is about to start in Telangana. Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy will begin this initiative by laying the foundation for a new kitchen on November 14 at Enkepalli, near Kodangal. This large kitchen, covering 2 acres, will be built by the Akshaya Patra Foundation. It aims to deliver mid-day meals to all students in government schools within the Kodangal assembly constituency.
On Monday, representatives from the Akshaya Patra Foundation met with the Chief Minister to invite him to the foundation-laying event. They discussed how the kitchen will ensure high-quality food for students in the Chief Minister’s area. Since December, a breakfast program has been running successfully in the constituency, serving 28,000 students in 312 schools.
Currently, the government provides Rs 7 per student for the mid-day meal program in all state government schools. However, the Akshaya Patra Foundation spends up to Rs 25 to prepare and serve these nutritious meals. The Foundation has pledged to cover the extra costs beyond what the government pays. Plans are also in place to support this initiative using CSR funds.
Foundation members mentioned that the breakfast program has been very popular among students and parents, making it a model for the country.
