Chief Secretary Sanjay Jaju has directed officials to immediately roll out a joint pass system for Metro Rail and RTC bus travel in Hyderabad. The integrated pass will offer both monthly and daily options, making commuting more convenient for residents of the city. The directive came during a coordination meeting held at Begumpet Metro Rail Bhavan on Sunday, where officials from Hyderabad Metro Rail Limited (HMRL), Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TGSRTC), the Electricity department, and Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board were present.
During the meeting, officials from HMRL and TGSRTC confirmed that they were technically ready to introduce the joint pass and had finalised all necessary arrangements for its implementation. Jaju instructed them to quickly finalise the joint fare structure and roll out the pass system without delay. The Chief Secretary also reviewed the city’s elevated corridors and directed officials to plan them keeping future requirements in mind. He specifically reviewed the Old City Metro corridor, seeking details on road-widening works and the tender process for appointing a general consultant.
Jaju directed officials to expedite road expansion and other works along the 7.5-km Old City corridor and start project activities at the earliest. Following the meeting, the Chief Secretary travelled by Metro from Begumpet to Paradise along with HMRL Managing Director Sarfaraz Ahmad and Additional Managing Director B Ajith Reddy. During the journey, he inspected commercial complexes and parking areas at Metro stations and suggested measures for their further development.
The Chief Secretary also inspected elevated corridors being constructed by Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) along NH-44. The joint pass initiative is expected to significantly improve public transport connectivity in Hyderabad, offering commuters a seamless travel experience across both Metro and bus services. Officials have assured that the technical infrastructure is in place to support the integrated ticketing system.
