Murky situation escalates over election TV ads in Telangana

Telecast of political advertisements on TV during the election season in Telangana has become a murky affair. The Election Commission (EC) has banned some controversial TV ads, but these visual advertisements are still being shown on YouTube channels. The EC has banned five TV advertisements titled 2 BHK, Donga chetikiTalam, Farmer, NeetiBirakaya, and PenukuPetthanam based on fresh complaints from political parties. The Chief Electoral Officer has instructed all TV channels to immediately stop airing these video advertisements.

The Congress party has alleged that the EC is deliberately stopping their advertisements at the request of BRS. They believe that the EC’s decision is a result of pressure from BRS and BJP, who fear defeat. The EC prohibited the ads without giving any prior notice. In protest, the Congress party has been continuously posting all the “banned” ads on X.

The EC has taken serious note of the TV ads released by political parties that contain “objectionable” content. Complaints have been lodged by the BRS, Congress, and BJP against each other before the Chief Electoral Officer Vikas Raj.

The election authorities have said that more advertisements have been prohibited from being telecasted, and they are reviewing all TV ads to ensure that no derogatory content is shown.
