Hyderabad: Despite objections, IT Minister D Sridhar Babu confirmed that the Congress government will continue with the River Musi rejuvenation project, insisting they will not reconsider.
“When a beneficial project starts, some will always try to stop it. This is happening with the Musi project as well. However, we will complete it for future generations. Telangana will become a model in water conservation,” he stated.
Speaking at the South Zone Conference of the Institute of Town Planners India (ITPI), organized by the ITPI Telangana Regional Chapter, Sridhar Babu highlighted the importance of urban planning in economic success. He insisted that real development should align with environmental sustainability.
“Building structures alone is not growth. Every policy we create, every forest we save, every river we restore, and every job we provide are acts of justice for future generations,” he remarked. The Minister noted that Telangana is already leading the nation in urban greenery, carbon-neutral growth, water conservation, and sustainable transport.
He stressed the importance of technology in creating cities that can withstand climate challenges. Planning should consider factors like climate change, urban flooding, pollution, groundwater loss, decreasing green spaces, and fast urbanization.
