Chevella: Another day, another tragedy — and once again, the Chevella–Manneguda road has claimed innocent lives. A horrific bus accident on this dangerous stretch has raised the same haunting question Telangana Tribune has been asking for years:
Who is responsible for the countless deaths on this road?
A Road Sanctioned for Safety — Still Waiting for Change
Despite being sanctioned for four-laning in 2020, the TSPA–Manneguda highway remains a narrow, deadly bottleneck.
Locals, commuters, and activists have repeatedly warned about the dangers of this stretch — and Telangana Tribune has consistently reported on it — but officials have failed to act in time.
The tragedy comes just two days after the NGT case related to the TSPA–Manneguda expansion was finally settled, clearing the way for construction.
But for the families of those who lost their lives today, that clearance came too late.
Banyan Trees vs. Human Lives
One of the major delays in the project has been the environmental protests over the banyan trees lining the road. While conservation efforts are important, today’s heartbreaking scenes raise a painful question:
“Are banyan trees more valuable than the 100s of human lives lost on this stretch?”
There are hundreds of blood stains and crash marks on these very trees — grim reminders of how many people have died waiting for the promised widening project.
Years of Warnings Ignored
Telangana Tribune has been actively highlighting the danger of this road for years — from poor lighting and lack of dividers to reckless truck movement and sharp curves that have turned this route into a death corridor.
Despite repeated appeals, bureaucratic hurdles, environmental delays, and political neglect have stalled progress.
Who Will Be Held Accountable?
The people of Chevella and surrounding mandals want answers:
Who is responsible for ignoring the project since 2020? Why did it take four years and an NGT verdict to move an already sanctioned road expansion? How many more lives must be lost before the government treats this as an emergency?
The Road of Death
The Moinabad-Chevella–Manneguda highway has become synonymous with tragedy, delay, and indifference.
Even though the NGT case is settled and work may begin soon, experts warn it could still take years for completion — unless authorities treat this as a top priority.
Until then, the banyan-lined road will continue to stand as a memorial of human negligence, soaked with the blood of those who never made it home.
