The Bonalu festival began in Telangana with a big procession to the Sri Jagadambika Temple at Golkonda Fort. Women carried Bonum on their heads while Potharajus danced to the music. Ministers from the state government offered silk clothes to the goddesses and performed a pooja. The Endowments Minister said that the government has been celebrating Bonalu on a grand scale since declaring it the state festival. They have spent over Rs 78 crore on Bonalu funds since 2014, which goes to 3,033 temples in the state. The monsoon arriving a day before Bonalu is a good sign, and they hope the goddesses will bless the devotees and people of Telangana.
