BRS Leaders Raise Concerns Over Lack of Judges in Telangana High Court

Hyderabad: Leaders of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) expressed concerns on Thursday over the shortage of judges in the Telangana High Court. Despite an allocation of 42 judges, only 23 have been appointed so far. They highlighted that the absence of judges from Scheduled Caste (SC) and Scheduled Tribe (ST) communities was delaying justice for marginalized groups.

Speaking at a press conference held at Telangana Bhavan, senior BRS leader B Vinod Kumar, alongside the party’s legal head S Bharat Kumar, explained that the Telangana High Court was established as a separate entity on December 31, 2019. It was decided at that time that the court would have 42 judges. However, the full number of appointments has not been made, leaving the court understaffed.

Vinod Kumar pointed out that none of the current judges in Telangana belong to the ST community, and there are very few from the SC community. He emphasized that appointing the remaining judges would ensure better access to justice for Dalits and tribal communities. “If judges are appointed in full, justice will also be done to the backward Dalit and tribal communities,” he stated.

The BRS leader also recalled that during Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao’s (KCR) tenure, the party’s efforts in Parliament led to the increase in the sanctioned number of judges to 42. However, the backlog of cases in the High Court has continued to grow due to the shortage of judges.

He urged the Chief Justice of the Telangana High Court to take immediate action to fill the vacant positions. “There are four judges from other States in the Telangana High Court, and justice will be served to Telangana only if the judges are fully appointed,” he added.
