    Hyderabad: Opal Suchata Chuangsri from Thailand won the 72nd Miss World title on Saturday. Krystena Pyskova, the previous Miss World, crowned her. The event saw the presence of Julia Morley, Chairman and CEO of the Miss World organization, and Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy. Hasset Dereje Admassu from Ethiopia was the runner-up, while Maja Klajda from Poland secured third place, and Martinique from the Caribbean came fourth. The grand finale took place at a vibrant ceremony at HICC.

    Opal is studying international relations and is interested in psychology and anthropology. She dreams of becoming an ambassador someday. She volunteers for breast cancer organizations and has a unique talent for playing the ukulele backwards. Opal also has sixteen cats and five dogs as pets.

    Nandini Gupta, India’s contestant, couldn’t make it to the top 8. She initially raised hopes by being one of the five shortlisted candidates from Asia and Oceania. However, she did not advance as Miss Philippines and Miss Thailand moved to the next round.

    The top four finalists were Miss Martinique, Hasset Dereje Admassu from Ethiopia, Miss Poland, and Miss Thailand. From each continent, the top two included Miss Brazil and Miss Martinique from America and the Caribbean, Miss Ethiopia and Miss Namibia from Africa, Miss Poland and Ukraine from Europe, and Miss Philippines and Miss Thailand from Asia and Oceania.

    The event highlighted Telangana culture, with contestants wearing traditional Indian outfits like lehanga choli and Sharara designed by Archana Kochar. The jury featured Caryna Tyrrel, Sudha Reddy, Rana Daggubati, Jayesh Ranjan, Julia Morley, Manushi Chillar, Namrata Shirodkar, Sonu Sood, and Dona Walsh.

    Jackline Fernandes entertained the audience with popular Bollywood and Tollywood songs, including ‘Chitiya Kalaiyan we…’ and ‘Pani Pani hogayi.’ Ishan Khattar delivered an energetic dance performance featuring the song Natu Natu.

    Actor Sonu Sood received the Miss World Humanitarian Award for his efforts during COVID-19 in India, becoming the youngest recipient of this honor. Rana Daggubati presented the award to him.
