Hyderabad, Telangana: Oxford Grammar School, located in Himayat Nagar, celebrated World Earth Day on April 22, 2025. The school organized several meaningful activities to promote environmental awareness and student involvement.
Mr. M. Vedakumar, the Chief Patron of Oxford Grammar School and Chairman of the Deccan Heritage Academic Trust (DHAT), attended the event as the chief guest. He planted a sapling on the school premises as a symbol of the school’s commitment to being a “Plastic-Free Zone.”
World Earth Day is celebrated every year on April 22 across more than 190 countries. It was first started in 1970 in the United States by Senator Gaylord Nelson to raise awareness about environmental problems.
During the celebrations, Mr. Vedakumar encouraged teachers to educate students about the importance of protecting nature, both inside and outside the classroom. He also spoke about the school’s journey since its founding in 1981 and its active role in promoting sustainability through events like World Rivers Day and World Earth Day.
Oxford Grammar School’s Nature Club led the day’s activities, which included students creating recycled art and performing an Earth Day song. Students also took pledges to protect the environment. Grade 8 students participated in a project exploring the natural resources on the school campus, and primary students, along with their parents, created crafts using waste materials.
Teachers at the school highlighted the importance of individual actions in protecting the environment. The events followed the 2025 Earth Day theme, “Our Power, Our Planet,” and aimed to raise awareness about issues such as pollution, climate change, deforestation, and biodiversity loss.
The event was supported by several dignitaries from the school, including Correspondent Mr. Katta Prabhakar, Dean Ms. Ramanjula, CBSE Principal Ms. Rekha Rao, and Pre-Primary Principal Ms. Fatima Khazim, along with the teachers and students.
Oxford Grammar School’s Earth Day celebration showed their strong commitment to building a greener and more sustainable future.
