Hyderabad:
The State government has asked all Pakistani nationals living in Hyderabad to return to Pakistan. This follows instructions from the Central government, and their visas will be cancelled by April 27.
This decision comes after a terror attack that happened on April 22 in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir.
State Director General of Police (DGP) Jitendar said that 208 Pakistani nationals are currently living in Telangana, mostly in Hyderabad. He announced that visa services for Pakistani nationals have been stopped immediately.
“All existing valid visas for Pakistani nationals will be cancelled from April 27,” Jitendar said. However, medical visas will remain valid until April 29. He also clarified that this rule does not apply to people with Long Term Visas (LTVs) or those with diplomatic or official visas.
The DGP further said that the Attari border will stay open for Pakistanis to leave India until April 30. He advised all Pakistani nationals in Telangana to follow the new rules to avoid legal trouble.
According to official records, there are 208 Pakistani nationals in Telangana. Out of them, 156 hold Long Term Visas, usually given to those married to Indian citizens or who have close family ties in India.
Another 12 people have short-term visas, and 39 hold visas for medical or business purposes. No one in Hyderabad currently has a SAARC visa, which is usually given to officials, journalists, or athletes.
Finally, the DGP said that the police have started checking if any Pakistani nationals are overstaying after their visas have expired, especially because of the rising tensions between India and Pakistan.
