The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has initiated a comprehensive enforcement drive against footpath encroachments across Hyderabad, targeting illegal structures that obstruct pedestrian movement and compromise public safety. The civic body deployed teams equipped with heavy machinery to clear public pathways and restore access for citizens throughout the city.
The anti-encroachment operation covered all six zones of the city, with authorities focusing on both permanent and temporary structures that have illegally occupied public footpaths. Teams utilized JCBs and other heavy equipment to remove obstructions from key pedestrian pathways. The drive prioritized busy roads and high-footfall areas where encroachments have significantly impacted pedestrian safety and traffic flow.
Officials conducted extensive clearing operations near Gandhi Hospital and several key junctions across the city. The enforcement teams systematically removed unauthorized structures, kiosks, and other obstructions that had been blocking pedestrian access on these critical stretches. The action aimed to create safer walking spaces for citizens and improve overall traffic management in congested areas.
The civic body has identified multiple locations for regular enforcement activities. These include the Maheshwari Parmeshwari Theatre area, Sultan Bazar Road, and Kacheguda junction. Authorities have earmarked these high-priority zones for sustained monitoring and periodic clearance operations to prevent the return of illegal encroachments.
The GHMC announced that special enforcement drives will be conducted every Saturday to ensure continuous action against encroachments. Officials stated that regular monitoring mechanisms will be implemented to prevent re-encroachment of cleared footpaths. The civic body emphasized that sustained efforts are necessary to maintain pedestrian pathways free from illegal occupation.
The municipal corporation stated that the initiative aims to restore pedestrian access and improve traffic movement across the city. Officials confirmed that enforcement teams will continue operations in other identified stretches as part of the ongoing campaign to reclaim public spaces for citizens.
