Mahabubnagar: Palamur Biosciences Pvt. Ltd. (PBS), a top research facility in Mahabubnagar, faces scrutiny after PETA India raised concerns. These issues, based on a former employee’s claims, circulated widely before PBS could respond. A thorough inspection by the Committee for the Purpose of Control and Supervision of Experiments on Animals (CCSEA) and the Animal Welfare Board of India is now complete, and PBS awaits their findings.
PBS insists it follows all rules and operates transparently. It is recognized by bodies like GLP, CDSCO, AAALAC, and OLAW. For over 15 years, PBS has been central to India’s biomedical progress. It is the only large-animal testing site in the country and one of the few in Southeast Asia. The facility helps develop drugs, medical devices, vaccines, and agrochemicals.
PBS also hosts India’s first large-animal medical device evaluation center, backed by BIRAC under the “Make in India” and “Atmanirbhar Bharat” initiatives. It has validated technologies like artificial hearts, dialysis systems, heart valves, and stents, boosting India’s healthcare sector.
PBS leaders stress their dedication to ethical research and animal care. They said, “We are sure the inspection will prove our commitment to high standards. Unfounded claims can damage India’s R&D, especially startups needing local preclinical services.”
PBS urges everyone to wait for the official report and focus on facts. They call for a fact-based discussion to safeguard India’s innovation environment.
