Prime Minister Narendra Modi concluded his three-day State visit to Seychelles on Monday, marking a significant milestone in India’s diplomatic engagement with the Indian Ocean nation. During the visit, India and Seychelles signed nine agreements covering digital payments, healthcare, maritime security, agriculture, space cooperation, and legal assistance. India also announced a ₹1,250 crore Line of Credit to support Seychelles’ infrastructure and development projects, reaffirming its commitment to regional cooperation.
A major highlight of the visit was the agreement to introduce India’s Unified Payments Interface (UPI) in Seychelles, strengthening digital connectivity between the two countries. Prime Minister Modi also handed over a Made-in-India Fast Patrol Vessel to enhance Seychelles’ maritime security and addressed the country’s National Assembly, becoming the first Indian Prime Minister to do so.
The visit underscores India’s strategic focus on the Indian Ocean under its “Neighbourhood First” and maritime cooperation initiatives. As both nations celebrate 50 years of diplomatic relations, the new agreements are expected to deepen cooperation in trade, security, technology, and sustainable development while reinforcing India’s role as a trusted regional partner.
