Tension arose at Osmania University on Monday as police detained several students protesting against a new rule banning demonstrations on campus. The arrests happened near the historic Arts College, a site known for its role in the Telangana agitation.

A large number of police officers entered the Arts College building and took at least five members of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) into custody. Videos of the incident quickly spread on social media, attracting widespread attention.

In addition to the ABVP activists, police also detained several leaders of the Joint Action Committee (JAC). These leaders were trying to march from Arts College, demanding that the university revoke the protest ban immediately.

Jeevan, an ABVP national executive member and Telangana Universities Coordinator, strongly criticized the police action. He stated that detaining students would not stop them from fighting for their rights on campus.

Jeevan also warned the university administration that if the circular banning protests was not withdrawn within 24 hours, students would escalate their agitation.
