Political parties in Madhya Pradesh are getting ready for the upcoming elections. The ruling BJP and opposition Congress are both planning to offer freebies during their campaigns. On Saturday, Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan will give the first part of Rs 1000 to women under the “Ladli Behna Yojna” scheme in Jabalpur. The scheme is an attempt to win over women voters and reduce anti-incumbency against the Chief Minister’s rule. Around 1.25 crore women between 23 and 60 years will receive monthly financial benefits from this scheme.

The BJP is relying on this scheme to change people’s mindset towards them, and not just their state unit, but the central leadership is also banking on it. Congress national general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra will start the opposition party’s poll campaign from Jabalpur on June 12. The campaign will include a roadshow and public meeting after performing the Narmada poojan on the river banks. BJP is focusing on Jabalpur as they won only 13 out of 38 Assembly seats in the region.
