Hyderabad recently saw a rise in electricity demand, especially during this monsoon season. This increase prompted Navin Mittal, the Principal Secretary for Energy in Telangana, to instruct power officials to stay alert. The demand this year is already higher than last year’s and is expected to continue growing.

Navin Mittal held a video meeting with officials from the Southern Power Distribution Company of Telangana. Musharraf Faruqui, the Chairman & Managing Director, was also present. Mittal stressed the importance of keeping a close watch on the power supply, as the government prioritizes this sector highly.

In Greater Hyderabad, electricity consumption is high across industrial, commercial, and domestic sectors. The continuous power supply for agriculture means millions of farming motors are in use, adding to the demand. On July 16, peak demand hit 15,443 MW, a 14.05% jump from 13,541 MW on the same date last year.

As paddy sowing progresses, further increases in power demand are expected. Mittal urged all staff, from top management to lower levels, to stay vigilant and take steps to avoid any power supply issues. He highlighted the need for officials to be particularly careful during the monsoon, suggesting they stay at their offices during rain to monitor the situation closely. The meeting included TGSPDCL Directors Dr. Narsimhulu, Chakrapani, and Krishna Reddy, along with Chief Engineers, Superintending Engineers, and Divisional Engineers.
