    Teachers’ Union Demands Restoration of Old Pension Scheme

    The Progressive Recognized Teachers Union (PRTU TS) has called on the State government to fulfill its election promise of reinstating the Old Pension Scheme (OPS). This demand comes in response to the Central Government’s decision to implement the Unified Pension Scheme (UPS) starting April 1, 2025.

    To voice their concerns, PRTU TS district president Pacharla Thimmareddy submitted a memorandum to Leeja Mandal Tahsildar, Y Jyothi. The memorandum emphasized the importance of switching from the Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS) to the new UPS, while also urging the government to bring back the OPS. According to the union, the OPS would provide greater financial security to employees after retirement.

    The union criticized the CPS for its contribution-based structure, which they believe fails to meet the financial needs of retirees. They reiterated their demand for the immediate abolition of CPS and the implementation of OPS, highlighting its defined benefits and assurance of post-retirement stability for government employees.
