Hyderabad: Rain might affect this year’s Independence Day celebrations. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) in Hyderabad predicts light to moderate rain or thunderstorms across Telangana until August 15.
Isolated heavy rainfall is expected in several districts due to low pressure in the Bay of Bengal. This has already caused heavy rain in parts of the city.
On Thursday, areas like Punjagutta received 12 cm of rain, leading to severe traffic jams and damaged roads. More rain is predicted over the next week.
City officials opened a crest gate at Himayatsagar on Thursday night, releasing water into the Musi River.
Heavy rain is likely in the districts of Nalgonda, Mahabubnagar, Nagarkurnool, Wanaparthy, Narayanpet, and Jogulamba Gadwal.
Thunderstorms with lightning and winds of 30 to 40 kmph are expected in isolated areas across all districts on Saturday and Sunday.
From Monday to Friday (August 11-15), light to moderate rain is anticipated in isolated places. Some relief is expected from Monday to Wednesday, but heavy rain might return on August 14 and 15 in certain areas.
