Hyderabad: Continuous heavy rains have caused the water level at Himayatsagar to reach its maximum capacity. In response, officials lifted four gates of the reservoir on Friday to manage the excess water.
The reservoir hit its Full Tank Level (FTL), prompting authorities to act to prevent overflow. As a precaution, one gate was raised by one foot on Wednesday night, allowing about 339 cusecs of water to flow out safely.
Despite this, water levels kept rising, leading the irrigation department to lift another gate by one foot on Friday morning. This step aims to relieve pressure and maintain the reservoir’s structural safety. People living in downstream areas have been advised to stay alert and heed updates from authorities.
Officials are keeping a close watch on the situation and will make further decisions based on upcoming rainfall and water inflows over the next day.
